Welcome to Episode 1 of Blog #8, where I’m documenting my journey of building a blog, creating digital products, learning online marketing, and working toward my first dollar earned online.
This is my eighth attempt at blogging, and while I’ve started websites before, this time I’m approaching the process differently. Instead of spending months trying to make everything perfect, I’m focusing on building a working online business, publishing helpful content, learning how to reach the right audience, and tracking my progress along the way.
I’m 46 years old, (Update: I’m 47!) and I’ve reached a point where I want to take my goals seriously. I’ve spent enough time thinking about what I want to accomplish, and now I’m putting those ideas into action.
My first financial goal is simple: earn $1 online through The Honeybee Brand.
That first dollar won’t represent financial freedom, but it will show me whether someone is willing to pay for something I’ve created or recommended. From there, I’ll have a starting point for learning what works and what needs improvement.
Understanding What I’m Building With Blog #8
Blog #8 is more than a collection of blog posts. I’m building The Honeybee Brand into a website where women interested in personal growth, blogging, digital marketing, and creating financial freedom will find useful information and resources.
My website, TanishaMonique.com, is the home of this journey. I’ve organized the brand around several connected areas, each serving a specific purpose.
The blog will provide helpful articles and document my progress. Her Digital Dreams will introduce beginners to digital marketing and digital products. The Honeybee Shop will offer educational resources, and Honeybee Notes will give readers a way to stay connected.
The goal is to create a blog where each part supports the others while giving my visitors a reason to return.

My Plan to Earn My First $1 Online
I want to approach monetization with realistic expectations. A website doesn’t automatically earn money because someone publishes a few articles or uploads a product. I need useful content, relevant offers, a working checkout process, and people who are interested in what I’m sharing. Here are the five areas I’m focusing on.
1. Build a Website People Understand
Before promoting anything, I want visitors to understand who I am, what The Honeybee Brand offers, and where to find the information they’re looking for. I’ve been working on the homepage, About Me page, Start Here page, Blog #8 landing page, Her Digital Dreams, and The Honeybee Shop. These pages create the foundation for the website, but I’ll continue reviewing how visitors move between them as I publish new content.
2. Publish Helpful Blog Content Consistently
One of my biggest lessons from previous blogging attempts is the importance of consistency. I’ve spent time planning websites, changing ideas, and working behind the scenes without always reaching the publishing stage. This time, I want to focus on completing and publishing useful articles. My main content areas include personal growth, blogging, digital marketing, and financial freedom. I’ll also share parts of my everyday life and faith when they fit naturally into the conversation. Rather than trying to publish every day, I’m starting with a manageable schedule and focusing on content quality.
3. Start With the Digital Products I Already Have
I’m not beginning with an empty shop. The Honeybee Shop has two beginner-friendly eBooks covering digital products and digital marketing, and I’m preparing them for The Honeybee Shop. My initial pricing plan is:
- The Beginner’s Guide to Digital Products: $9
- Digital Marketing Made Easy: $14
- The Digital Dream Starter Bundle: $17
These resources are designed to introduce beginners to the topics, explain important concepts, and help readers understand their next steps. My first sales goal is to find out whether these products meet a need for my audience. I’ll document what happens, including the marketing approaches I try and the results I receive.
4. Learn How to Bring Visitors to My Website
Publishing content is one part of blogging. Helping people find the content is another. I’m learning more about search engine optimization, Pinterest, Facebook, and content marketing so I understand how to reach readers who are interested in my topics. I’ve started working with WordPress and Yoast SEO to organize my website for search engines. My next focus is creating useful blog posts and sharing them across the platforms where I want to build a community. I’m also building my Facebook presence for The Honeybee Brand, where I plan to share lifestyle content, educational posts, and updates from my blogging journey. I’ll pay attention to which topics bring visitors to the website and which content encourages people to explore further.
5. Track My Progress Instead of Guessing
I want to understand what I’m doing, how much time I’m spending, and whether my efforts are producing results. I’ll track important milestones, including the number of articles published, website visitors, email subscribers, digital product sales, and income earned. I’ll also keep track of business expenses so I have a clearer picture of what I’m spending compared with what I’m earning. Sharing these details will help me evaluate my progress and give readers a realistic look at what building a blog involves.
What I’m Doing Differently This Time
I’ve learned that having ideas isn’t the same as completing projects. I enjoy planning, organizing, and exploring new possibilities, but I’ve also struggled with procrastination and staying focused.
With Blog #8, I’m making a few changes.
First, I’m following a weekly work schedule instead of deciding what to work on every day. Second, I’m breaking larger goals into smaller tasks so I know what needs my attention. Third, I’m focusing on finishing projects before adding more responsibilities.
Most importantly, I’m treating this journey as a learning experience. If something doesn’t work, I want to understand why and make an informed adjustment rather than abandon the entire project.
Common Mistakes I Want to Avoid
As I build Blog #8, there are several habits I’m watching closely.
- Spending too much time changing my website design instead of publishing content.
- Starting new projects before completing current priorities.
- Creating products without explaining who they’re for or how they help.
- Expecting immediate traffic or income from a new blog.
- Comparing my progress with creators who have spent years building their businesses.
I’m learning to measure progress by completed actions and meaningful results rather than how busy I feel.
Tools and Resources I’m Using
I’m starting with tools that support the work I’m doing now.
- WordPress for building and managing my website.
- Yoast SEO for organizing basic on-page SEO.
- Google Calendar for maintaining my weekly work schedule.
- Google Search Console for monitoring how my website appears in Google Search.
- The Honeybee Shop for selling my digital resources.
As I test additional tools, I’ll share which ones help my workflow and whether they’re worth keeping.
